47. At the sight of the military procession, one may exclaim: "The King has started." This statement is made from the vyavahara point of view, because only one person is the king in the whole procession.

48. In the same way, from the vyavahar point of view, the various psychic states such as desire, aversion, etc., may be said to be the ego. But the real Self is one of these states but remains as the unitary sub-stratum of which these are empirical modifications.
